A few months ago, I got an idea in my head to make body butters, natural deodorants, sugar scrubs, etc. After all, the skin is the largest organ of our body, why not keep it as healthy as we can?
On the same note, a colleague of mine posted an article on Facebook indicating that microbeads commonly found in exfoliating products are beginning to accumulate in the Great Lakes, particularly Lake Erie. To do my part in reducing my carbon footprint, I’ve begun to change my skin care routine, by creating my own products to benefit my health as well as the Earths.
This scrub was incredibly simple to make, and will definitely last for a few baths/showers. Plus, it makes for a great gift!
Ingredients (I purchased most of these ingredients from New Direction Aromatics)
- Mason jars (this makes about 2 cups, so you may want to divide the scrub among a few jars)
- 2 cups sea salt
- 4tbsp of raw honey
- 4 tbsp of almond oil
- 1tsp clay (not mandatory, mostly used for colour)
- 10 drops of vanilla essential oil
- 10 drops of lemon essential oil
Note: Any combination of essential oils can be used, I was going for the lemon-cupcake smell. Also, if you don’t want to make 2 cups of the scrub, you can easily half or quarter the recipe.
Directions: Mix all ingredients.
When taking a shower/bath, use about 1tbsp of the mix and scrub the body. If you’re taking a bath, you can let the mix soak in the water with you.
